Effect of Transient Short-term Boron Deprivation on the Growth, Nodulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Exposure to transient 10-days boron (B) deficiency stress created during different periods of growth cycle of nodulated soybean plants grown in a liquid culture was found to inhibit the nodule number and to increase the nodule dry weight. Nodule fresh weight was decreased in the stressed plants especially in the older ones. The loss of tissue water in the B-deficient nodules was accompanied by some increase of soluble sugar content and a decrease of nitrogen fixation. Acetylene reduction rate of stressed nodules was lower than in controls. The mechanism of action of the short term Bdeficiency stress on the nodule growth and functions was explained by the participation of boron ions in development of the root and nodule cell walls and cell membrane permeability.

In this study, the effect of short-terms starvation (0, 2, 4 and 8 days) on plasma cortisol, glucose, triglyceride and cholesterol levels and also hepatosomatic index in Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii, was investigated. After acclimation to experimental conditions for 10 days using formulated diet, 180 juvenile Siberian sturgeons (mean weight ? S.E.=19.3?0.4, n=15) were randomly distribute...
متن کاملLong-term and Short-term Effects of Financial Intermediation on Economic Growth
Financial intermediation in Iran's banking system is negatively affected at least in two ways. First, there are many similarities between financial intermediation and usurious activities in the common interpretation of interest-free banking law. This encourages the banks to participate in various commercial activities. Second, the price setting policies of the central bank makes investment more...
متن کاملRoot Responses to Boron Deficiency Mediated by Ethylene
Low boron (B) supply alters the architecture of the root system in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings, leading to a reduction in the primary root growth and an increase in the length and number of root hairs. At short-term (hours), B deficiency causes a decrease in the cell elongation of the primary root, resulting in a lower growth. Experimental approaches using ethylene insensitive Arabidopsis mu...

متن کاملEffect of different concentrations of iron and boron on growth and physiological properties of Achillea millefolium L.
Plants need essential nutrients for their growth and development. Iron and boron are micronutrients that are needed by plants in very small concentrations. This study was conducted as a pot experiment to investigate the effect of iron and boron on Achillea millefolium in a factorial randomized complete design with three replications. Iron at three levels (0, 5 and 20 μM) and boron at three leve...
